The Cincinnati Reds won the first Chub Feeney League championship, beating out the Houston Astros and New York Mets by more than four games. The Reds were the only Chub Feeney club to enter the National League playoffs.

The Cincinnati Reds were the only National League playoff club in the Chub Feeney League, so it's not surprising that the Reds won the Chub Feeney League.
The Reds took the Feeney League by 4½ games over the Houston Astros and New York Mets, both of which had losing records in the National League and both of which were one game better than even in the Chub Feeney League.
By the NL standings, the St. Louis Cardinals were the second best team in the Chub Feeney League, but the Chub Feeney League standings (which, quite naturally, include only games among Chub Feeney League clubs), show the Cardinals in fifth place out of six teams.
