Taking the prize all the way through the National League postseason, the St. Louis Cardinals turned in a record-setting performance to once again be Team of the Year in pursuit of the Dick Allen Award during the 2013 season.

The St. Louis Cardinals put on a September stomp that went into October, overtaking the Atlanta Braves to take Team of the Year honors in the Dick Allen competition for 2013, their third straight year with that distinction.
The Cardinals already had won the Allen three times in 2013 before the Braves took it for the first time with a three-game sweep over the Cardinals July 26-28 in Atlanta. Then the Braves tore off seven straight title defenses to take the lead in most categories before the Cardinals snagged it back from them with a three-of-four triumph Aug. 22-25 in St. Louis.
After one defense, the Cardinals lost the ear in Pittsburgh, losing two of three to the Pittsburgh Pirates Aug. 30-Sept. 1. But the Cardinals got it back from the Pirates with a three-game sweep in St. Louis Sept. 6-8, and they never let it go.
The Cardinals made five title defenses consecutively to end the regular season, then held it through the National League playoffs, beating the Pirates in a five-game League Division Series, then winning four-of-six against the Dodgers in the League Championship Series.
At 51-25 for the season, the Cardinals set the all-time record for wins in any corn competition, holding it for a record 56 games. They tied the all-time record in any corn with five titles, and their 13 defenses tied them with Tampa Bay's matching 2013 effort in the Killebrew for the most in a season.
